History

      

     In 1971, the Shelby County Board of Education approved a contract for construction of the Millington Middle School on a wooded lot in Millington. The building was occupied in January, 1973. Classes were conducted in the open-space middle school concept. During the 1975-76 school year, an addition to the original structure was completed. This addition was expected to house vocational laboratories; however, due to a higher than expected enrollment, the entire addition had to be used for standard academic classes including art, music, physical education, and resource classes.


     Five feet tall, concrete block walls were added to the interior of the building during the 1982-83 school year to create an atmosphere of traditional classroom setting. In 1988, additional classroom space was created from storage space and vocational laboratories. New storage space was added and a kitchen was constructed in the cafeteria. A curriculum laboratory and teachers' lunchroom were constructed. A security system was installed in March, 1990. Three portable classrooms were added in 1993.  In the summer of 1995, complete walls were constructed as well as space for ten additional classrooms. Included in this new area were spaces for a complete science lab, a computer lab, and an additional teacher work room.

     In 2014, Millington Middle School left the Shelby County School System and joined the Millington Municipal School system.  At the end of the 2020-2021 school year Millington Municipal School closed E.A. Harold Elementary School.  This close lead to 7th and 8th grade being moved to Millington Central High School and MCHS was renamed Millington Central Middle High School.  The building that housed Millington Middle School was renamed Millington Intermediate School. 

     Millington Intermediate School opened its doors for the 2021-2022 school year to all 4th - 6th grade students in the district.  There are a
pproximately 500 students currently enrolled at Millington Intermediate School. The school has grade level teams where teachers are departmentalized in the academic areas of Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. A support team is responsible for instructing music, physical education, special education, guidance, library skills, and art. The Principal, Assistant Principals, and PLC Coach are the administrators responsible for the operation of the school.
